About Multigig

Multigig is a fabless, high performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductor company headquartered in Scotts Valley, California. Multigig is focused on providing state-of-the-art technologies that solve significant system-level timing problems. By coupling Mulitigig’s core strengths of innovative, high performance analog design with its broadly patented proprietary RotaryWave™ technology it forms the foundation for barrier shattering, energy efficient, low cost timing products targeting the most demanding applications in storage, communications and computing.

Multigig's goal is to become the leading provider of high-performance timing solutions with an emphasis on board and system level clock tree solutions that meet increasingly more stringent customer requirements. Multigig “opens the window of time” by providing the lowest phase noise, jitter, and power consumption in space saving packaging available today. The Multigig QuietClock (MQC) series of devices with its patented RotaryWave technology significantly improves jitter and phase noise performance which enables enhanced networking system throughput by widening the eye diagram to decrease the Bit Error Rate (BER). The RotaryWave technology represents a paradigm shifts in clocking technology, now protected by over 30 patents, and targets high-performance communications applications. The major and compelling reasons customers are designing with RotaryWave technology today is:

    1) 10-100x improvement in jitter and phase noise as compared to competitive solutions
    2) Substantially lower power consumption (often 50%)
    3) Lower price than the competition makes for an effortless BOM decision

Comparing a Multigig part against the competition is straightforward and quickly contrasts the tremendous advantages provided by the Quiet Clock series of devices. For example, one popular frequency synthesizer from a major competitor was compared to the Multigig second source part. The results are significant and decisive in favor of Multigig. In terms of RMS jitter performance, the results were as follows: 450 fs competitor vs. 60 fs Multigig, this represents an 8 times improvement which gives a system architect or designer a substantially lower BER.

Many companies today mandate engineering find every milliamp of power savings at the IC level and make supplier decisions based on lowest power consumption. RotaryWave technology provides significant reductions in power consumption by lowering core current draw by 50% as compared to an out-of-date PLL VCO device. Also, the Multigig parts often operate down to 2.5 V and covers the industrial temperature range. These types of parametric enhancements are inherent to all the Quiet Clock series of products when compared to the competition.
